Live Updates: Trump Discusses Drones, Vaccines, and Cabinet Plans in Expansive Press Conference

President-elect Donald Trump covered a wide range of topics during a press conference at Mar-a-Lago on Monday morning, addressing drones, vaccines, foreign conflicts, and his Cabinet picks. He also announced a significant $100 billion investment from the SoftBank Group at the outset of the briefing.

 Key Political Deadlines

Congress faces a critical deadline this Friday to prevent a government shutdown. Lawmakers are scrambling to finalize a deal, with Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) expected to unveil a stopgap measure. However, delays persisted over the weekend, with funding for farmers emerging as a major point of contention.

In addition, concerns over drone activity are gaining momentum in Congress. On Sunday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) urged the Department of Homeland Security to deploy advanced technology for detecting drones.

 Cabinet and Legislative Developments

This week, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is set to visit Capitol Hill to meet with Senate Republicans in pursuit of support for his nomination as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Meanwhile, the Senate will take up the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), following its passage in the House last week. The annual defense bill is a crucial legislative priority for Congress.

Trump Reflects on Second Term

During the press conference, Trump shared his perspective on the shift in public and political attitudes since his initial victory in 2016.

“The biggest difference is that people want to get along with me this time,” Trump said, contrasting his experience with the hostility he faced during his first term. “The first one, they were very hostile… This time, it’s the opposite of hostile.”

Trump cited his first administration's achievements, including historic tax cuts and military rebuilding, as reasons for the newfound goodwill. He noted a recent meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook as an example of improved relations with prominent figures.

Reflecting on his earlier presidency, Trump acknowledged the challenges of widespread resistance but emphasized the accomplishments his administration achieved under pressure.

“We had a great administration. We got the biggest tax cuts in history, rebuilt the military—though too much of it was given away to Afghanistan,” he said.

Other Highlights

Trump praised bipartisan collaboration during his press conference.

Vance announced Daniel Penny as his special guest at the Army-Navy game.
